Pillar of Takeaways

My pillar of Takeaways

Four Steps Nine Rules
In a World that has everyone moving seemingly at then speed of light, it is important to have "a Game plan" , "a Road Map", or "a Process". Then it is important to put it to a schedule and measure it for results. In essence that is what radian6 pdf titled Four Steps to Blogging does.

A quick search of the internet and you will quickly learn that radian6 isn't the only one talking about  Four Steps to Blogging  http://www.slideshare.net/EarthboundMediaGroup/social-media-intelligence-listening-engaging-adapting

Basically Introduce your company by introducing your message. In other words it is time to put your "Big Ideas" on front street. To do this you will need to know what your big ideas are, how they are unique, and how others will benefit by having your ideas. Know your target audience, or client, or fan base. In simple terms you need to be unique because if your brand doesn't stand out, then you will never stand alone because you will be just another nameless face in crowded room of wannabes.

The nine rules we play by aren't always universal, but they are still useful nonetheless. The rules a mostly valuable once they have been tailored to your companies unique situation. Take for instance the rules for listening can be refined down to sifting through information heard on the internet to actionable intelligence that your company can use. Think of yourself as the secret service of your business. On one hand you are protecting the interest of your company, and you do this by having good listening skills, and even better processing skills.

Once you have collected your data it is time to share as appropriate with those who you serve. Do it in a friendly way that makes people feel important. Do this because they are important, very important to your bottom line.

  1. Hi Jeff,

You made a statement that really caught my attention regarding the fact that it seems everyone is moving at the speed of light. It is so true. Any important information can be shared across the globe in a matter of seconds.

Having said this, listening becomes that much more important. Because information spreads so quickly, it is now imperative that we listen in order to ensure accuracy. This mirrors your statement of "actionable intelligence." Without actionable intelligence a company can damage its reputation and ultimately lose everything they've worked to build. How can a company further protect its interest in the social media world?

  2. Excellent Question, and my hunch would be to remember how easy it is to harm your reputation, vs. how hard it is to build a good reputation. One misstep, or one ah crap! can wipe out five good things that your company does. In the aerospace business Boeing helps hundreds of thousands of people travel thousands of miles everyday, 24 hrs a day, yet they have an issue with a battery on one of their airplane models, which they will resolve, and the company gets a black eye.
